Woman Arrested for Stealing Ambulance

mydailydrive.com-wsvn-090826_Police_stolen_ambulanceSOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. (WSVN) — Police have arrested a woman who was driven to steal an emergency vehicle.

Police arrested 48-year-old Karen Annette Taylor Wednesday (8/26/09) morning after they surrounded the stolen ambulance with police cruisers in Southwest Miami-Dade.

Police said she took the vehicle while Florida Medi-Van employees picked up a patient, just before 11 a.m., at the Vita Dialysis center, located at 3280 Ponce de Leon Blvd. in Coral Gables. “Drivers of Medi-Van went inside the unit to get the patient. They took about three or four minutes. They came back out, and the van was gone,” said an unidentified employee at the dialysis center.

Miami-Dade Police would later spot the van about a half hour later along Bird Road in Southwest Miami-Dade. They pulled it over underneath the Palmetto Expressway overpass and found Taylor behind the wheel.

Mitch Lemos witnessed the arrest. “I saw a police officer try to detain a woman right next to an ambulance,” he said. “He had her on the floor, and he just told her, ‘Give me your arm, give me your arm.’”

A spokesperson with Medi-Van said they require all EMTs to lock the doors of their vehicles whenever they enter a facility to pick up their patients. Police are now investigating how this woman got inside the vehicle.

Police took her to the Miami-Dade County Jail. She now faces charges of grand theft, resisting arrest, and battery on a law enforcement officer.

[Moral of the story? Lock your doors bitches!!]
