When it comes to trucks I am a fan. I’ve been into trucks ever since I turned my radio controlled 1/10th scale Team Losi JR-X2 (dune buggy) into a JR-XT (Baja style trophy truck) back in the day.
I guess as a youth, I was also a fan of the arena style truck racing that was going on in the 80’s. Ivan “Iron Man” Stewart and Steve Millen driving like crazy over jumps, bumps, whoops, and even some tabletops, in arenas all around the US.
At the time there was even a popular arcade game called; Ivan “Ironman” Stewart’s Super Off-Road, which gave a taste of the action to little boys like me. Man was it fun, I donated many a quarter to that machine.
There was just something alluring to the soul of a little boy about a truck jumping off a dirt ramp. Thousands of pounds of tube frame, motor, and driver flying through the air – a split-second graceful pause in the action of the otherwise violent mayhem that was arena racing at the time. The truck, then landing softly on big off road tires with immense bouncy springs to soak up the impact. Followed by wild skidding through the corners, the dirt kicked up behind them, it was all so exciting and looked like so much fun. So, when I saw this truck that brought back so many memories I had to stop and say… My, that’s a nice truck. Its DNA clearly rooted in those trucks from off road racing’s past.
I was just leaving pep boys after purchasing some new goodies for my car when I saw this electric blue Toyota Tacoma I had to gaze at its familiar look. Hood scoop looking good, its Baja pre runner stance ready to take you and 4 buddies on an off road adventure at a moments notice. The truck did have some on road style wheels and tires but blue accents in the chrome were a nice touch. Deep down we’re all little boys who just wanna jump our trucks aren’t we? I know I am.
