The fun, hip, retro styled Chrysler PT Cruiser has bowed out. Friday July 9 2010, was the official end to production of the PT ( Personal Transportation Cruiser). Originally created with partnership between Chrysler and Plymouth the compact hatch back is no more.
A total of 1,355,484 units were produced. Turbo GT’s, convertibles, automatics, manuals, and a wild variety of colors and styles were made, although nothing changed much from the original look that made it so popular.
The ups and downs of the car market along with the seemingly endless restructuring of Chrysler let the car get passed over year after year with no major improvements or restyling. But thirteen years of sales has to be seen as true adoration for a wonderful American car. The PT was a hit and filled many a need for a wild variety of owners. I’m sure we will be seeing the used relics of PT’s for years to come.
As a household who has owned two PT’s, I have nothing but good things to say about the get up and go Turbo grocery getter, (and some part time street racer).
Thanks for being one cool car.
