- The Event – The Super Car Experience Car Show.
After the exhilarating ride up to West Palm Beach it was time for the show. We parked, walked up to the side entrance and got our media credentials. Meanwhile all of the cars that were on the drive up with us were actually in the car show, they were in a different area checking in.
We didn’t know it at the time, but we had a rolling preview of what was to come. As for the show- it was very cool if not a bit overwhelming. A remarkable mix of cars, from super to exotic, ground touring cars and even American muscle- old and new mixed in.
The first group of carss we saw were a gaggle of Lotus Elise’s all laid out in their bright colors, as if someone had dumped out a box of skittles on the grass.
Then we saw a beautiful Porsche 962 CR front and center. One of believed to be only five or six in the world. This twin turbo charged ultra rare Porsche went for about $1.4 million when it came out in ’94. It looked to me like a full-blown IMSA GT car for the street (actually, I think it is).
Parked right next to the Porsche, still warm from the drive up, was the fire breathing Ferrari F40 that was in the run up with us. Man, I have to tell you guys this thing sounds amazing revving, grumbling, and cackling! Its got all the sounds of a full blown race car.
In case you didn’t know the Ferrari F40 (besides being the uber dream car for kids like me back in high school) is a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive, two-door sports car produced by Ferrari from 1987 to 1992 as the successor to the Ferrari 288 GTO. From 1987 to 1989 it held the title as the world’s fastest street-legal production car, and during its years of production, was Ferrari’s fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car. The car had an sticker of $400,000 but some went for $1.6 Million. Only 1,315 F40s we ever built. All that kick ass noise and power comes from a twin IHI turbocharged V8 developing 471 HP with (16 psi) of boost. Nice!
We had gotten to the event so early that even more cars were still arriving. It was fun to see and hear them roll in. You hear a motor and turn around to see whats attached. Can we say Lamborghini Countach? Every brand was represented at this event. It was cool to see how some cars were classically stock and how others were modified from mild to wild. Everything was game in this super car show.
I have to tell you there were way too many cool cars at the show for me to tell you about them all in this post. But you can see them all in the pix that I took at the event for now and if time permits I’ll go more in depth on all the cars in the show. I did want to mention a few standouts that even in this impressive menagerie of super cars were worth a second look.
First we saw probably one of very few Heffner Performance Audi R8 V8 Twin Turbo, putting out around 600 rear wheel horse power to all four wheels. I’m sure on the 1/4 mile and the race track this turbo V8 leaves its V10 Lamborghini powered sister car quivering in the corner rocking back and forth in the dark.
Its amazing to see a modified super car like this. Putting a turbo on a Honda Civic or a Nissan 350 Z is one thing. But twin turbo charging a car that is already super is an order of magnitude more gangster in my book. I’ll have more on Heffner performance soon.
When you have a big show you have to have a super star, a real headliner. A Beyonce or Jay-Z of the show, the one star every one came to see. For this show I’d have to say the super star was this – the brand new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.
The successor to the now retired but still super Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren, the SLS is a stunning revamped tribute to the classic 300 SL gull wing from the late 50’s.
Let me tell you the car is stunning! Larger than you would think. with a hood that goes on for days filled with a 571 HP V8 in the middle. But its those gull wings that get you, unique even among is group of unconventional doors that open up, out, scissor and slice each and every way. SLS AMG makes you wonder if you had it would you drive with the doors up all the time? The answer is yes!
I’m just counting down the days till I see this new gull wing Benz’s cruising down Ocean Drive with the doors up screaming for attention. I must say the interior of the car is luxurious and beautiful as well. Watch for it as the safety car for the upcoming F1 Season. It’s just a wonderful car.
Another car I’d have to note is the red Lamborghini Miura we saw drive up. I have to tell you when I saw I thought wow I never thought I’d get to see this car.
It’s the ultra rare of the ultra rare. But I’ve learned that when at events like this the unbelievable is realized. This car was driven to the show. The owner and his friend got right out and started chatting with friends. I love owners who drive their babies- not haul them.
The Miura is super car and classic in the same package, rolling history. The Miura was the first car Lamborghini produced. Back in 1966 when Ferruccio Lamborghini left Ferrari and went on to create his own super car company this was his first vehicle. I’d say a winner right out of the gate. All the beautiful lines and sleek look of a super car, one that even today immediately makes you say “That must be a super car and it must be a Lamborghini.”
I was gonna stop at three cars but I cant. I have to show you more!

I could go on and on about the amazing cars but I’ll say this. The Super Car Experience was terrific, lots of beautiful cars to feast your eyes on. All and all it was a “super, car, experience” for me and j2. From the breakfast at Lamborghini of Miami to our little jaunt up to West Palm Beach. It was a full day of super car fun and I’m definitely looking forward to next year.
I couldn’t put all the pix in this one post so all the gorgeous super pix I took at the super car experience are in the link below.
Enjoy!
