Now this was our first time to an event like this so I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. Was it going to be a parade of uber rare and racy exotics? Single file up the highway Rose Bowl parade style? Or, more of a free form sprinted drive of sorts? We were soon to find out. Our team leader had announced the time we were heading north. Shortly thereafter we had a sort of “drivers meeting”, no bump drafting was the word of the day, ok, it wasn’t, but I gather that’s implied. Basically, we were all told to “behave” on the road. The drivers meeting also clearly announced for all to hear the super car totem pole hierarchy. I knew there was one but to have it laid out so clearly was a first for me. Ferrari’s and Lambo’s ride out up front, then Porsches, lesser cars like BMW’s Evo’s Nissan GT-R’s etc… “You guys bring up the rear as this is ‘Super Car Weekend”. I thought man, that’s tough, but hey its how the cookie crumbles. You wanna run with the big dogs up front you gotta bring your big dog to the fight. After the meeting we all dispersed and headed to our cars. I thought this is what it must be like at Gumball, Cannonball or whatever kind of “ball” road rally’s car nuts get into (oh, you like how I did that don’t cha).
I was there to document, so our car was Switzerland in this dogfight. J2 at the wheel ready to get her full Alex Roy on and me riding shotgun with my shotgun… err, I mean my camera. We waited in our chariot in a strategic position to get great shots of all the exotics cars as they exited the lot at Lamborghini of Miami.
It was quite the site to see, we even stopped traffic on a busy US1 so all the cars could drive together. This group that I thought was going to be small five to ten cars had grown to around thirty- this was going to be a thrill for our crew and everyone in regular cars on city streets and the highway.
The first group of the cars had headed out and caught all the green lights. Our group was not as lucky. We got stuck behind a mass of Saturday morning traffic that seemed intent on blocking every single lane. After some lights that were too long and some drivers who were very shocked to see our smaller group of better than average cars we got to the highway. We drove for a while just the smaller group of cars then a few miles north on I95 north we caught up to the bigger dog’s.
Ferraris, Porsches, and the Lamborghini, oh my. They were all over the road just begging to be photographed. It was a trip, loud fast exotic cars all around us. My hot shoe j2 was maneuvering our mobile vehicular automotive shooting platform ride into terrific positions for me to get you all these amazing shots. It was truly a blast to be surrounded by all these amazing cars not just parked but live and in action.
As we got off the high way our group had grown to what seemed like forty cars. I know some Broward and Palm Beach based Super Car Experience participants had chosen not to drive down to Lamborghini of Miami but to meet up with us on the highway up in Broward County. Our merry band of exotic brothers grew and grew.
We all cruised into Palm Beach after an exulurating drive to say the least …
…and got stuck at the railroad tracks.
Something that any other day would be mundane and boring. But it turned into a five minute mini super car, car show. So I jumped out and got even more pictures! I can only imagine what the drivers mixed in with us who weren’t apart of the Palm Beach Super Car Experience were thinking. Probably something like: “Wow, people in Palm Peach all drive really nice cars.”
It was a super fun ride as I’m sure you can see. Tomorrow, the car show!
