Mmm coffee… oh hi, hello there! This is your friendly neighborhood car blogger writing to you in the morning….yes, I said in the morning. How odd, yes, I’m a night owl. Headlights on lets do this. But today I got up (in the morning) and went through some pix that I have been meaning to share with you!
I saw some of this and some of that but this picture I snapped of a red E92 BMW M3 coup just couldn’t be passed over. Not too log ago I was over at Braman BMW, a dealership that has a wonderful selection of cars from the ever popular run about Mini Cooper to the uber exotic Bugatti Veyron. I’ll have more on this Bugatti soon. But I wanted to give special attention to this fourth generation of the M3 (M for motor sport)- well and all the new M3’s that are out.
Here’s the short of it – what a car. What a motor. This S65B40 is a naturally aspirated, high revving 4-litre V8 based on the V10 motor that is in the current model M5 and M6 cars.
After all it is the BMW (Bavarian Motor Works). If you have “motor” in your company’s name your engines better be boss. BMW has been making fantastic engines for a long, long time but this one is very special. It’s actually the first V8 to be placed into an M3. The new v8 is 22% more powerful and 15lb lighter than the last generation six cylinder power plant.
2010 BMW M3 Coupe:
414 HP
Redline at 8400 RPM
0-60 in 4.6 Seconds
Top Speed 155 MPH (electronically limited)
Weight 3648 lb
Base Price $58,400
Not too log ago those were Ferrari numbers!
A 2002 Ferrari 360:
400 HP
Redline at 8500
0-60 in 4.5 seconds
Top Speed 180 MPH
Weight 3064 lb
Base Price $157,767
The Ferrari 360 is a very pretty car, but not one that can seat four and be used as a daily driver.
The M3 is a car that can smoke almost every car you see on the road from a red light, yet blend in to the automotive dispara with the best of them, and by the rest of them I mean mainly the thousands of other 3 series BMWs around Miami. This would make theBMW M3 the ultimate sleeper. I guess this puts me in a love/hate with the M3.
The car is beautiful, the car is fast, it is purposeful, and it’s a real monster.
But it’s also a sleeper that fliess under the radar.
I’m not sure if that’s good or bad, but for my $56,500 I’d want the world to know how badass my car is. Guess that’s just me.
As I look at muscular shape balanced with sinuous lines of the BMW M3 I’d have to say anything too gaudy would take away from the handsome austere look of the car.
This BMW is comfortable in its own skin.
Maybe a racing stripe and a rawkus exhaust to give the car some real volume would be enough to let the world know this is not your average 3 series.
That’s my personal preference.
So, what have we learned here? The newM3 has Ferrari speed and performance with high-end commuter car looks, cost and personality. I think these guys at BMW might be on to something?

Dude Jesse awesome write up. The new M3 is so sweet, but you know where my heart lies. Bill’s 360 is so beautiful. And his exhaust is out of this world. But for 56 large you can’t really beat the little red Bimmer.
Nice photos too!!! I’m waiting for those SCX photos from the weekend
