2009 Ford Bullitt Mustang

mydailydrive.com-2009-Ford-Bullitt-Mustang-007Way back in 2008 Ford introduced a version of their ever loved retro sexy Mustang. They produced a special version for those serious car movies bufs’.

The Bullitt mustang! I caught these shots of one driving down to The Falls mall in Miami.

Before the Fast and the Furious, before (insert other car movie here  – but know that there is no better car movie(s) then the fast and furious series) there was Bullitt.

Detective Frank Bullitt was played by a steely eyed Steve McQueen. His brooding character didn’t talk much, but his actions spoke volumes. Especially behind the wheel.

His car, the “good guy / hero car” was a Dark Highland Green 1968 Mustang GT 390. Ever an a automotive icon, this car was made famous as Bullitt chased a black dodge charger (the bad guy car) through the streets of San Francisco back in 1968. Note how director Peter Yates cut out the soundtrack in the film and used the sounds of the cars as the score. The engines revving, the tires screeching. Music to the ears of any car aficionado.

The smart folks over at Ford created a limited edition “Bullitt” Mustang for 2009. The car started out as a Mustang GT. But includes some additions from Ford’s SVT program. This retro-futuristic modern muscle car comes equipped with a 4.6 Liter V8 putting out 315 HP and 325 pound feet of torque.

This beefed up GT also has a custom exhaust with a sound all its own. Lowered suspension and it breathes better with a high flow air intake. The car also has no actual “Ford” badging. It it only says Bullitt on the back deck lid where the car normally would say “Ford GT”www.MyDailyDrive.com - ford_mustang-bullitt_cap_08
Interestingly the new 2010 mustang has almost all of the mechanical upgrades that one could only get on the 2009 Bullitt mustang. Guess the Bullitt was not only a tribute to the past, but a look at the future of of the Ford Mustang.

Only 3000 units were produced so to see one here in Miami is quite the treat. I’ve seen more than one, but this is the first time I’ve seen one since I’ve been doing this blog. The car has a fresh white cue ball shifter- which is actually made by a company that makes cue balls.

As far as limited edition collector cars go, this is deff one to have. Who wouldn’t want to be cool ass Steve McQueen every time they got in there car!
